Prof.dr.ir. Anthonie Meijers, TU/e

AnthonierondAnthonie Meijers has a background in both philosophy and (energy) technology. His research focuses on the nature of technology and engineering, as well as on the increasing impact of technology on our life and ourselves. He has edited 8 volumes and special issues. He is the author of 32 refereed articles and book chapters. He is the editor in chief of the landmark publication Handbook Philosophy of Technology and Engineering Sciences (2009), the first comprehensive handbook in the philosophy of science on technology and the engineering sciences (1453 pp), published by Elsevier. He is co- founding father and since 2005 editor in chief of Philosophical Explorations, a leading journal for the philosophy of mind and action (http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/rpex20/current), published by Routledge. He is also co- founding father of the 4TU Center for Ethics and Technology, the largest center in the world in the field of ethics and technology.

Meijers has a strong track record in cooperating with the social & behavioural sciences and the engineering sciences. This is shown, for example, in the joint NWO research programme with psychologists and engineers on persuasive technology & social values, in the context of smart mobility. He has been head of the Philosophy and Ethics Department (2000-2016) and is vice-dean of the Faculty Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology (from 2009 on). He is Distinguished Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, an honor that is granted to only 5 professors.

 

Prof.dr. Wijnand IJsselsteijn, TU/e

wijnandrondProf.dr. Wijnand IJsselsteijn has a background in artificial intelligence and cognitive neuropsychology. He obtained his PhD in 2004 on the topic of telepresence. Since 2012, he is full professor of Cognition and Affect in Human-Technology Interaction at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His focus is on people- and value-centered perspectives of technology understanding and design. He has an active research program on the ways in which media technology can influence prosocial and healthy behaviours. He has a keen interest in the relation between data science, AI and human psychology, and works on technological innovations (e.g., sensor-enabled mobile technologies, virtual environments) that make possible novel forms of human behaviour tracking, combining methodological rigor with ecological validity. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed academic papers in journals and conferences, and has (co-)edited 10 volumes.

 

Dr. Lily Frank, TU/e

lilyrondDr. L.E. Frank received her Ph.D. degree from The Graduate Center, The City University of New York in 2014 for a thesis on moral psychology, specifically moral motivation and metaethics. From 2007 to 2013, she was an ethics fellow in the Bioethics Department of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Since 2015, she is an Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy and Ethics, Eindhoven University of Technology and a Senior Researcher at the 4TU Centre for Ethics and Technology. Her research focuses on moral psychology, medical ethics, ethics of technology, and the ethical implications of technology for health behaviour change. She has contributed to several scientific publications, workshops, and conferences in the domains of philosophy and ethics.

 

Dr. Philip J. Nickel, TU/e

philiprondDr. Philip J. Nickel is Assistant Professor at TU Eindhoven and Senior Researcher at the 4TU Centre for Ethics and Technology. He obtained a PhD in Philosophy from UCLA in 2002 on the topic of “secondhand” moral beliefs borrowed from others. He has published widely on the philosophy of trust and the idea of trust in technology. In 2013-2014 he led an NWO MVI project ethically assessing telecare services in the Netherlands, entitled “Medical Trust Beyond Clinical Walls.”

 

Dr.ir. Peter A.M. Ruijten, TU/e

peterrond.jpgPeter Ruijten received his Ph.D. in Social Psychology in 2015 from the Human-Technology Interaction group at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology. He holds a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and a M.Sc. in Human-Technology Interaction. His current research interests include (social) Human-Robot Interaction, Persuasive Technologies, and Trust in Autonomous Vehicles.

 

Elcin Hanci MSc, TU/e

ElcinrondElcin Hanci obtained her B.A. in Psychology from Bilkent University, Ankara and received her Research Master’s degree in Social Psychology at VU Amsterdam in 2016. Her research interests include quantified self, decision making, motivation and social cognition. Since July 2017, she is a PhD candidate at Human – Technology Interaction Group, Eindhoven University of Technology. Elcin focuses on the first part of the project: ‘Trust and motivation in mobile behaviour change support systems’.

 

Iris Loosman MA, TU/e

irisrondIris Loosman obtained a BA and MA in Philosophy from Utrecht University. Iris’ research interests include bioethics, moral psychology and ethics of technology. She started working at  Eindhoven University of Technology as a PhD student in June 2017, where she focuses on the second part of the project: ‘Rethinking trust and consent in mobile behaviour change support systems’.

 

Dr. Joyca Lacroix, Philips Research

joycarondDr Lacroix holds a Senior Scientist position at Philips Research, the Netherlands, since 2008. Her research focuses on innovations and digital support solutions for health behavior change, adherence and self-management. She holds a MSc degree in cognitive psychology and a Ph.D. degree in the combined domain of psychology and artificial intelligence. She has ample experience in fundamental research (PhD and postdoc) and applied research (Philips) targeting healthy people and people with a condition. In her current role, she collaborates with several academic partners and has received funding from national and EU programs. She has contributed to more than 30 scientific publications in the domains of psychology and health behavior change and holds various patents in these domains.
